Third Trimester Here We Come!

We went for our 27-week check up today and all seems to be going well. The midwife said I am doing everything right, but she doesn’t see me scoffing my face with chocolate biscuits and crisps. No really, I have been better the last few weeks and have cut down on all the naughty things people say you can eat, but really deep down you know you will regret once the baby arrives.

The midwife took some measurements today and has estimated a 7lb 12oz baby, but I don’t know how true all these numbers are. She said I am still a low risk pregnancy, which is good news. The best news today was the fact my midwife made a phone call and miraculously was able to get us on some antenatal classes that I was told were full up. It’s typical that this would happen, because Steve and I had just signed up for some private antenatal, as we could not get anything on the National Health Service. Anyway were into the third and finale trimester…the home stretch.

Physiotherapy For Pregnancy

Today, I went for Physiotherapy for my sciatica pain in my lower back and leg. I was kindly told that my shoulder posture was pretty bad and that I needed to work on it. The therapist gave me lots of exercises to do at home to help me to sit correctly at work and home. Before I left the appointment the therapist asked if I was going back to work. I wish I had replied no because she said she wanted to tape my back up for the afternoon so I could see where I am going wrong with my posture. I was told to sit down with my shoulders back and my back very straight. At this point the therapist started putting tape on my back. She said that I should wear it for a few hours and that if the tape went tight it was because my shoulders were slouched and my back was not straight. Believe you me, after a couple of hours I was ready to remove the tape. However, I can say that doing the exercise certainly made me realize how bad my posture is. I am now trying hard to do my daily exercises so I am not walking with a hunch when I am older. The fact I have extra weight on the front to carry around is not helping, but certainly not a good enough excuse for my posture.

Mum has finished painting the nursery

My mum has finished painting the nursery and she has done a superb job. We have gone with a “Winnie the Pooh Theme”. The walls are yellow and the lamp shade and curtains are pale green with Winnie the Pooh on. We also have a Moses basket to match, but that will probably be in our room for a little while. We have ordered the cot, changing table and wardrobe and today we are going to look at carpets. My mum has been a real help this week. She has washed all the baby clothes and blankets and removed the old carpet from the nursery, which could not have been an easy job.

I took two days off work to spend with my mum and all we did was shop and visit coffee shops. We decided to spend two days comparing carrot cake from different cafes and locations around Stockport. On our travels I showed my Mum around Bramhall, an area that we would like to move to, and my Mum thought the area very nice.

I am now 24 and half weeks pregnant and growing bigger by the day. I keep thinking of all the things we need to get done before the baby arrives and find myself getting nervous as the time draws nearer. I have things going through my head, for example, will the furniture get here in time for Steve to put it together, will the carpet get laid in time, do I have enough clothes for bump, and do I have everything we need. All these thoughts are going through my head even though we still have fifthteen weeks to go, but believe you me, time is going so fast. I hope time slows down when I am on maternity leave and the baby gets here.

Ok well I'd better sign off as Steve and I are off to The Orangery for breakfast...my treat.

Your Mother's Advice.

My mum came on Friday to spend a week with Steve and I. She is going to paint the nursery for us so we thought that was real nice. On Friday night we got into a conversation about best positions for babies to sleep in, and my mum started saying all her four children slept on their sides, but I said nowadays Doctors, and midwifes advise that children sleep on their backs. This started a whole one sided debate, where my mum was adamant that her mothering experience over ruled any professional advice, and that "half of these midwifes do noy have any children anyway".

In the end, I told my mum that we did not want our child lying on their sides, and that people may have done that 35 years ago, but that research has now shown that lying babies on their sides is not good. I asked my mum if she felt it would be difficult for her to accept our wishes, and if it was then we would have problems. My mum was a little upset and she said she was just offering her advice to which I replied that we very much appreciate people giveing us advice , but that ultimately, Steve and I will make the decisions for our child. I know my mum means well, but to think something she did 35 years ago is necessarily correct now is rather naïve. To be fair, my mother understood and agreed that we do not have to accept anyone’s advice because we are the child’s parents.
